"Thats My Bathroom"

Okay, so this story makes me laugh, but I guess we'll see if anyone else thinks it's as weird/entertatining as me...

Here's the background--So Saturday night I went on a blind date in Provo. It was one of my really good guy friends (Darrin Mahoney) mission companion. Well I drove down to Provo with my friend that set me up, Darrin. We had to pick up and drop off Darrin's date in Salt Lake--(up near East High)... On the way to pick his date up I noticed a Maverik, and I started telling Darrin how much I loved a classic Maverik frozen yogurt and how it reminded me of my mom because we always get them together...

Anyway, we went to Provo, went on the date, everything's dandy and we drop Darrin's date back off in Salt Lake. On the way back to Ogden I really had to go to the bathroom. It was really late and I was trying to think of a place that would be open, so as we are nearing the Maverik I say, "Hey Dare, can we stop at Maverik so I can go to the bathroom?" (and then I bribe him with) "I'll buy you a frozen yogurt!?" He was more than willing to stop, and he offered to buy the ice cream, but that's a side note just because he's so great.

So here we are, we stop at Maverik, we go in, and I go straight to the bathroom and I notice an "Out of order" sign. This is about how the dialogue goes...

(me to darrin) "Oh shoot, the bathroom says out of order!"
(darrin) "hmm" he looks around and finds the Maverik worker, "hey," he says to the worker, "so the bathrooms are broken? Both of them?"
(Maverik worker) "Well the employee one is working, but the other one isn't"
(darrin) "so can I use the one that is working?"
(worker) "No man. That's my bathroom. That's like my personal bathroom."
(darrin) "Oh, so it's actually yours... or is it just one that all of the employees use?"
(worker) "Well the employees use it, but it's still like my bathroom! It's my bathroom ya know? Look man, I don't come into your work and as you to use YOUR bathroom!" --the worker is getting a little heated by this point
(darrin) "Well I would let you use it if you did."
(worker) "Hey dude, I'm sorry, that's my bathroom, and nobody is using my bathroom." Then he turns away from us...
Meanwhile I'm just watching half amazed, half shocked that he seriously won't let someone use the employee bathroom this late at night--I mean it's not like there were really even other people in the store that could follow my example...

SO---
we get our frozen yogurt (which was SO good by the way) and we go up to the counter and the guy starts coming to ring us up and he whispers to us, "Just go."
We were confused and said, "What?"
He's like, "Just go!"
We looked at him a little more confused
"Just take the ice cream!! Nobody is using my bathroom, but it's my last day here and I don't give a dang** about some stupid ice cream!"
Me and Darrin exchange some weird looks and start walking out... behind us we say, "thanks?"

haha--we found it pretty amusing that he made that much of a stink about HIS bathroom when it was his LAST DAY!! and he probably won't ever use it again! But he let us walk out with free ice cream instead?! Super weird!

Oh and side note... We went to the nearest 7-11 and the bathrooms were out of order too, and the guy wouldn't let us use one. (We finally came to the conclusion that they had already cleaned them and didn't want to do it again that night)... Needless to say, we didn't try any other places, and I just held it until we got to Ogden where people let you use their bathrooms ;)

A Tribute to My Favorite Sista!

Because my sista (pronounced "see-stah") Amy is the amazing person she is, she has "blogged" about all of her siblings. (LINKS: Danny, Alyse, Scott) I thought it was a little unfair that no one brag about Amy, so I decided to introduce Amy Lynn Laneri Blake!

Goodness, where to start with this girl? --I guess we'll start from the beginning :) (and since i am the queen of family home videos and childhood stories of which I am not really apart, I'll try to get the facts right) Amy was the first born of the Laneri clan, and she took on the "roles and responsibilities" associated with that position from the very start :)

Amy was a sweetheart, and from the beginning she was always willing to share everything she had, BUT she also always knew what she wanted, and she let other people know. Amy was never afraid to tell you what she thought--one quick little story: When Amy was little (probably 3 or so) her Grandma Sirrine was tending her in Heber, and Grandma didn't know exactly how to handle Amy's independent and sometimes stubborn nature. At one point, Amy was out in the street and her Grandma told her to come in from the street. Amy's reply was, "No! You're the worst babysitter ever Grandma." haha.. She was an assertive little girl and she never really took garbage from anyone. Now that she's older, this little personality trait of Amy's actually causes her way more sucess than trouble! Her nature is driven. And because she's super talented, she accomplishes a lot! Talent and drive are a very good combination:)

In high school Amy was into everything... One thing that may surprise people is that Amy was what I like to call "granola"--which is basically a way rad person who likes doing cool things outdoors... She got into pottery, skiing (including telemark skiing--which is even more granola than down hill), snow shoeing, mountain biking, hiking, fly fishing, & backpacking. This said, Amy has also always had a very girly side that was fashionable and classy.

Amy is very smart and was always a good student, and in high school she had many other interests like TV broadcasting, tennis, choir, and even musicals--in fact as a sophomore because of her beatiful singing voice, Amy starred in South Pacific as Liat and in Saturday's Warrior as Julie (which is very impressive as a 16 year old!) So you can see that she was rad, athletic, beautiful, cultured, and a star by the time she graduated high school.

Because Amy was all of those things and more, she went to Utah State University on an awesome scholarship which was then known as PLC (President's Leadership Council) now more commonly known as being an "Ambassador" where she helped recruit for USU. She didn't get too far before she met her hubby of 5 years now, Todd Blake. They both graduated from USU.

For those who don't know, Amy and Todd met in August **(yes, BEFORE her freshman year), were engaged by November, and were married that March! Some might argue that it happened a little fast, but I say to each their own! It was just perfect for them:) Amy and Todd had an amazingly beautiful little boy about a year ago and the three of them live in Boise, ID.

Amy is my inspiration! I idolize her and look up to her in every way! No matter what she says, she is the "golden child," and I hope I can be just like her. Whenever I think about my life I realize how much Amy has shaped who I am. Ever since I can remember I've wanted to do things simply because Amy did them. (Of course i didn't do EVERYTHING she did, but at some point, I probably tried to!)

Right now, Amy's talents are a little different than they were in high school :) She is the absolute CUTEST mommy, such a supportive wife, and a great friend to many! She is an excellent homemaker (which, not gonna lie, she didn't show signs of early in life--I can remember her telling me to sweep because she didn't know how, and I'm 4 1/2 years younger :)) But right now my favorite thing to do is watch Amy with her baby boy Easton! She is seriously the most darling momma! She loves that boy to pieces! This is one of my favorite pictures because it shows Amy's "fun mommy" side! That's one thing about Amy I love--she's always willing and ready to play!

She is very creative and artistic, whether she admits or not. Her scrapbooks are awesome, she takes great photos, and every inch of her new house is adorable! I usually have to tell her to "stop being so cute!"

The older I get, the more I look and act like Amy, and one of the best compliments I can receive is being told I'm like my sista!

My dream would be to live down the street from Amy when I have a husband and kids so we could spend tons of time together and our kids could be best buddies! In reality, that may never happen, but I know we'll stay close and I'll continue to learn from her example! I hope to be even half the wife and mother Amy is! Her life so far has been one great river of success, and I know her future holds incredible things! Amy-you're the absolute best sister and I love love love you so much!

(One of) The Worst Dates!

So I decided my blog was getting a little boring, and when I asked my sister for some ideas... She told me to write about a blind date experience--that thought triggered my thinking, and while it was not a blind date, it was definitely a bad date! I've had quite a few bad dates in my day, but this one was a definite winner! (well if you can win at being a bad date!)

This was over a year ago, so I hope I get the facts right! The main event of our date was a JAZZ game. I was pretty excited because I hadn't been to a Jazz game in years! I was thinking, "How could this go wrong? It's a Jazz game!" Little did I know--the fun was yet to begin :)

So he picks me up and his music was the worst--i just ignored it because I know how people feel about their music. I'm a fan of most types of music, but I was NO fan of this junk! We get to the Jazz game and it's going well... We're in there and conversation is going downhill quickly. We didn't have the same humor which is always hard, and we had some differing opinions. Out of the blue one moment he turns to me and says, "What would you do if I hit you right here?" and he made the motion of punching me in the gut!! My initial reaction was, "Are you serious?" (inside all red flags are going up--ABUSE! ha) He's like, "Ya, what would you do?" I was really irritated that (1) he would even think of that and (2) actually make me answer! So I said something that was probably kind of rude about calling the police---I mean really though?! This is a first date and he already wants to punch me?!

I'm ready for the date to be done after the jazz game, and then he tells me we're going to the Bountiful Bowl... inside I am so ready to go home, but I knew I agreed to the date so I slapped a smile on my face and decided it could be fun! We got there and it was cosmic bowling so I was excited and ready to bowl and dance to the rockin music!(--in fact the man working gave me free bowling passes because he said he likes people who entertain him...and apparently my dancing is entertaining?! haha) So i'm having a good time and almost forgetting the horrible conversation and abusive mannerisms from earlier when I look over and my date is dancing super dirty with his best guy friend who was doubling with us!! Now, if there is one thing that makes me lose respect for people quickly, it's dirty dancing. This did NOT help the date. Then he starts saying weird/dirty things to his friend!

I was SO ready to go home and it was getting close to when I thought he would take me home. Then he informs me we're staying another hour! I finally spoke up and told him I would like to get home at a decent hour (It was already getting late). So we left :)

Don't worry it gets a little better! We're driving on I-15 and his car starts to sputter a little. Pretty soon we're slowing down... 55.... 30....slower... 10... stopped. Nothing. The car dies and he realizes his car ran out of GAS! AHH-- I was seriously bugged by now. Not fun! This kid is dirty, he wants to punch me, and now I'm stuck on the side of I-15 past midnight with him in a parked car! What else right?!

We did the only thing we could... called a friend and waited for them to bring gas. When I finally got home it was like a long overdue reunion with everything about my apartment! AND needless to say, I didn't love that date! I'm pretty sure by the time we ran out of gas he realized I wasn't having the time of my life either, and we didn't go on a second date... :) BUT! I do have to say that I don't hate him or even dislike him! I just could never date him!

Stay tuned for more funny dates! Thanks Amy:)

AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Happy 2008 everyone! This year I spent New Year's Eve with the Schwab family! Tina threw a great little shin-dig for everyone... complete with party hats and noise makers :) We ate dinner, played board games, dodge ball, ping-pong, & foosball--there was something to do for everyone! Here is the gang (minus Chuck the picture-taker & little Joshua who hit the sack a little earlier than the rest!)

(Left to Right: Tina, Kelsey, Kei, Ko, Alyse, Tyson,
Danny, Rachel)

For some reason my noise maker was very entertaining... But I think the reason I'm laughing so hard in the photo below is because I told Tyson we had to blow them for the picture (thinking the streamer portion would look neat going straight out) but at about the time I realized the streamers barely move when you blow them, Danny, (Tyson's brother in law) being smart, told me that we wouldn't be able to hear it in the picture. You probably had to be there, but it was a little funny--funny enough to make me pull this face at least?!

Ten minutes before the ball dropped we went around and said our biggest blessing of 2007 and our greatest hope for 2008-- I said my greatest blessing of 2007 was my nephew Easton, and my greatest hope was to get into the dental hygiene program at Weber State! After the ball dropped we went outside and made A LOT of noise. In fact, I made so much use of my noise maker that it quit working except for a very tiny high pitched shriek!

Here we are, decorated with anything we could find!
This is the first picture of 2008!

Hooray for the NEW YEAR
!
